Add Watermark to PDF
Add text or image watermark to PDF free. Customize position, opacity, font. 100% browser-based for document security.
The PDF watermark tool overlays text or image watermarks on PDF pages to mark document status and protect copyright. Watermarks are written as part of the page content and will display normally both on screen and in print. Two watermark types are supported — text and image — with configurable opacity, position, rotation angle, and other parameters to meet needs ranging from subtle background marks to prominent labels.
Typical scenarios include adding “CONFIDENTIAL” or “INTERNAL USE ONLY” text watermarks to mark document sensitivity, adding “DRAFT” watermarks to indicate content is not yet finalized, and adding company logo image watermarks to protect copyright and brand identity. Opacity control allows watermarks to serve their identification purpose without interfering with normal document reading.
All processing is done locally in your browser. PDF files are never uploaded to any server, keeping sensitive documents on your device throughout the watermarking process. The watermarked PDF is downloaded directly to your local machine without passing through any intermediate server, ensuring the privacy and security of contracts, financial reports, and other confidential documents.

Core Features
Text Watermark
Custom text watermarks with configurable content, font, size, and color. Common text watermarks include CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, and INTERNAL USE ONLY for document status marking.
Image Watermark
Upload a logo or image as a watermark on PDF pages. Image watermarks support configurable opacity, position, and scaling for brand identity and copyright protection scenarios.
Opacity and Rotation Control
0-100% opacity and arbitrary rotation angle. Background watermarks should use lower opacity to avoid interfering with reading; diagonally rotated watermarks cover a larger page area.
Page Range Selection
Apply watermarks to specific pages rather than the entire document. Add different watermarks to the cover, specific chapters, or all pages for flexible partial marking.
| Watermark Type | Description | Configurable Options |
|---|---|---|
| Text Watermark | Add text like CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, etc. | Font, size, color, opacity, rotation angle, position |
| Image Watermark | Add logo or image as watermark | Opacity, position, scaling ratio |
Use Cases
Confidential Document Marking
Add CONFIDENTIAL or INTERNAL USE ONLY text watermarks to contracts, financial reports, and other sensitive documents to mark their classification. Even if forwarded or printed, the watermark continues to indicate the document’s confidential nature.
Draft Identification
Add DRAFT watermarks to unreviewed documents to indicate content is not yet final. Prevents drafts from being mistaken for final versions, reducing miscommunication and poor decisions based on incomplete content.
Brand Watermarking
Add company logo image watermarks to protect copyright and brand identity. The watermark overlays the document content, making it possible to trace the source even if the document is copied or redistributed.
FAQ
Can I add a text watermark to a PDF?
Yes. Supports custom text watermarks with configurable content, font, size, color, opacity, rotation angle, and position. Common text watermarks include CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, and INTERNAL USE ONLY.
Can I add an image watermark to a PDF?
Yes. Supports uploading images (such as company logos) as watermarks on PDF pages. Image watermarks support configurable opacity, position, and scaling. Ideal for brand identity and copyright protection.
How do I control watermark opacity?
Opacity is set as a percentage — 0% is fully transparent (invisible), 100% is fully opaque. We recommend 20-40% opacity for background watermarks to remain visible without interfering with document reading. Identification watermarks (like CONFIDENTIAL) can use higher opacity.
Can I add watermarks to only specific pages?
Yes. Supports selecting a page range to apply watermarks only to specified pages. You can add different watermarks to the cover, specific chapters, or all pages. This is useful when only certain sections of a document need marking.
Can watermarks be removed from a PDF?
The current tool focuses on adding watermarks and does not provide removal functionality. If the watermark was added as a separate layer, it may be removable with a PDF editor. If flattened into the page content, it cannot be individually removed.
Will watermarks appear when printing the PDF?
Yes. Watermarks are part of the PDF page content and will display normally both on screen and in print. This is the intended behavior — ensuring the document carries identification information whether viewed electronically or printed.
